We are enthused to tell you a little about what has happened here at Uinta Veterinary Services over the past year and some of what to expect for the year to come.
There have been some changes in the last few years and we are currently owned by Dr. Mike Gamble (as some of you already know).
Dr. Mike Gamble and his wife Jill are raising 5 boys, 4 Quarter Horses, 1 pony, 1 crippled steer, a Border Collie cross named Hoss, and a cat someone started calling “Princess Sparkles.” They have been busy with their boys’ many activities since moving here in the spring of 2015. Dr. Gamble grew up in northern Utah on a small horse farm, where he was exposed to many different animals while growing up, and participated in 4-H as a youth. These experiences, supportive parents, and a good mentor led Dr. Mike to try his hand at team roping, steer wrestling and a little tie-down in high school, college and semi-pro competitions.
He came to the Basin in early 2015 and purchased Uinta Veterinary Services in May, 2015. Dr. Duncan and Trudy were very kind to help transition him into the practice and community. He loves serving the people in the Basin. He enjoys working with all species, but his main areas of interest are surgery, (soft tissue and orthopedic), adding value to cattle through progressive management, and enhancing athletic performance and reproduction in horses. He REALLY loves what he does.
Dr. Nelson Duncan grew up on a ranch in Wyoming and Colorado. He loved the ranch and rural lifestyle, but severe pollen allergies meant he had to seek an occupation other than ranching.
During his junior or senior year of high school he decided veterinary medicine would be a good choice. He could associate with the lifestyle and rural communities that he loved and not be immersed in grass pollen all the time.
Dr. Duncan attended the University of Wyoming as a pre-veterinary student and became a member of the Colorado State University College of Veterinary Medicine Class of 1976.
He moved to Roosevelt and the Uintah Basin in December of 1976 and has enjoyed all the years since then as a mixed animal veterinarian. It has been a wonderful life experience.
Dr. Duncan met Trudy Lamb here and has been happily married for 35 years. They have seven amazing children, of whom they are very proud. The youngest graduated from high school in May of 2017.
He continues to practice as an associate at Uinta Veterinary Services. He works part time and does mostly small animal and small herd work.
To Dr. Duncan, veterinary medicine is still a very rewarding profession. The variety of mixed practice makes each day a new adventure. “I enjoy all my patients and their people”.
Dr. Jessie Salter was born in the once small town of Bluffdale, Utah. She grew up on the back of a horse and always loved helping her Grandpa Gines with his wild chariot racehorses. Her love for horses is what started her on the path to becoming a veterinarian. At the determined age of 12, she set her stubborn mind to pursuing her dream of becoming a veterinarian.
Dr. Salter joined Uinta Veterinary Services in June of 2016 and has been loving learning the ropes here in the Basin. She is very passionate about equine medicine, and she also enjoys soft tissue surgery.
In her free time, Dr. Salter enjoys being with her two dogs, Beau and Tad; sewing, spending time with her family, and being outdoors.
